Ferrari won’t join Formula E—it’ll focus on F1, the WEC, and...yacht racing

Surprise! Ferrari really isn’t interested in going racing in Formula E.

Though we’ll see the Prancing Horse’s first fully electric car later this year ahead of a 2025 rollout (in its shiny new e-factory, no less), CEO Benedetto Vigna doesn’t see the attraction of the all-electric motorsport series.

“We remain focused on Formula One,” he said recently at the e-factory’s launch, “because that’s where we see a lot of traction. Formula E is not... so nice. I mean, the appeal is not so strong.

“So we remain focused on Formula One. I think that focus is important. When it comes to racing, we have already made our choices: Formula One, endurance, and the ocean races we announced a few months ago.

“We have a lot to do,” he added.

Even if it was only F1, it’d still be a lot to take on, not least with a massive regulation change incoming, a seven-time world champion about to take the hot seat, and—if rumors are to be believed—the most successful F1 designer of all time ready to take the leap.

That’s on top of the very real pressure of being one of the oldest, most famous and most successful Formula One teams in history—16 constructors’ and 15 drivers’ titles, just FYI.

Ferrari also picked up its WEC baton, returning to Le Mans last year for the first time since 1965… and immediately winning. Which it repeated in 2024 (the number 50 car pictured above). That’s 11 outright wins, just FYI.

And the boat thing? Why, that’ll be Ferrari taking to the high seas in a performance yacht, details of which will be revealed in due course. TopGear.com is hoping for a V12-powered superboat able to scare off the Kraken with its induction noise.

Anyhoo, speaking of noise... reckon Ferrari should be interested in Formula E now it’s got an electric car on the horizon?
