Keanu Reeves—indisputable action star and gearhead—has announced that he’ll make a one-off guest appearance in the GR Cup at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend.
Consisting of two qualifying sessions and two races spread over three days in support of the Indianapolis 8 Hour, the series’ 2024 season finale will see Reeves strapped into a Toyota GR 86 as one of four drivers making their debut on the 34-car grid.

Reeves has dabbled in racing before but not for several years, though he’s often spotted at Formula 1 and MotoGP races. He is also well-known for being into his motorcycles (he owns loads of them and co-founded his own brand, after all).

Last year, he hosted the Disney+ docu-series Brawn: The Impossible Formula 1 Story. Prior to that, it emerged that he had done all his own driving stunts on John Wick 4.

Quite apart from anything else, this has got us thinking about a fifth John Wick installment where instead of an arsenal of heavy weaponry, the title character must only use his battered old racecar to exact his cold-blooded revenge.
Or a Point Break sequel where the bank robbers compete in an amateur GT series between heists. Or a Matrix spin-off in which Neo must escape from his virtual imprisonment in a sim race.
We could do this all day. Surely it’s time for Keanu to do a proper racing movie?
