Man, what a year. It’s hard to believe that just like that, we’ve already reached the end of 2025.

In the world of motoring, the past 12 months have been nothing short of eventful. We’ve been able to compile the biggest motoring stories year in and year out, and today we continue this tradition.

We’ve seen a lot this year, but we’ve put together the top 10 stories that made you all click.

Recap: These were the 10 biggest car launches of 2025

1) May Huli Ka: You can now check for NCAP violations on the MMDA’s new website

MMDA launches mayhulika.mmda.gov.ph NCAP violations tracker

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority earlier this year launched mayhulika.mmda.gov.ph—a website wherein motorists can check if they have any violations under the no-contact apprehension program (NCAP). Honestly, it was no surprise that this was one of the most-read news articles of 2025.

2) DOTr: License plates, OR/CR of new cars will now be released within 72 hours of purchase

Toyota Motor Philippines

This was pretty big. The availability of both registration documents and license plates for brand-new cars has long been a problem here in the Philippines, but now the LTO is trying to rectify that with this new policy. Anyone here who bought a brand-new car in 2025? How was it—did you actually get your OR/CR and plates on time?

3) Street parking ban gets MMC approval—here are the affected national primary roads

Need we say more? Parking is a perennial problem in the congested urban jungle that is Metro Manila, which is why the Metro Manila Council’s ban on street parking on certain roads was a big issue among the public.

4) The NAIA Terminal 3 carpark now uses an automated parking system

From abandoned cars occupying the airport parking lot, we have come to this. Our airports still leave a lot to be desired, so it’s nice to see improvements like these every now and then.

5) The Nuvali Flyover is opening on March 21; new traffic scheme to be implemented

Oddly enough, a localized news article concerning residents in Laguna was quite a popular story among our readers. Why so? Do you all frequent this area, or are these just busy roads to begin with?

6) The Makati subway project is ‘no longer feasible’

Well...we don’t have a lot to say other than “sayang” perhaps.

7) MRT, LRT student-discount guide: 2025 fare matrix and how to avail

Student lane discount train fares

The DOTr rolled out a big discount for students who regularly use the trains. All eligible passengers are now entitled to a 50% discount on all fares on the MRT-3, LRT-1, and LRT-2. That’s huge.

8) The LTO has something to say about those blinding rear-facing lights

LTO

Hindi natin alam kung ano ang tumatakbo sa utak ng may-ari ng sasakyan na ito na magpakabit ng nakakasilaw na ilaw na ganito. Bawal po yan dahil it can compromise road safety lalo na sa gabi. We already issued a show cause order against the registered owner of the vehicle wherein he was also advised to surrender the license of the driver using the car at the time of the incident,” said LTO assistant secretary, Atty. Vigor Mendoza II.

Seriously, guys, what’s the need for the blinding lights?

9) New NCAP app will allow motorists to track their violations

On top of the website mentioned in the first item of this list, the MMDA is also working on an NCAP app for motorists. The software will supposedly help users track their NCAP violations. Quite nifty, isn’t it? Frankly, though, we think just following the rules and avoiding violations is the easier way to go about this.

10) Motorists using temporary plates will be fined P5,000 starting Nov. 1

Just a few years ago, the LTO was still dealing with backlogs upon backlogs of old plates. Now, it’s the one cracking down on motorists using temporary plates. My, how the tables have turned.
