BYD Philippines officially has officially released the BYD Seal, its luxury-performance dual-motor sedan.

Built with brand-new cell-to-body (CTB) technology, the Seal will attempt to rip through the competition while offering a luxurious driving experience. With this model, BYD is going toe to toe with the likes of the Lexus IS300h, the Toyota Camry, and perhaps even the Honda Civic Type R, especially at its P2,548,000 price point.

The Seal was built to flow through the wind. Its sleek hood was shaped for optimal aerodynamics followed by its low panoramic glass roof that extends to the other end of the car. The 19-inch wheels (shod in 235/45 R19 tires) were designed to shield the brake discs, and the doors feature flush handles—again all for aerodynamics.

Putting it into numbers, the Seal measures 4,800mm long, 1,875mm wide, and 1,460mm tall. All for the sake of speed, it sits low to the ground with a ground clearance of 120mm. A bit on the heavy side, it has a curb weight of 2,185kg.

The five-seater cabin features leather, suede, and ambient lighting as BYD expects the Seal to hold its own in the luxury-sedan market. The driver and the front passenger will be sitting on ventilated/heated bucket seats, with power eight-way and six-way adjustment support, respectively.

Right at the center of the dashboard is a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment display that rotates 90 degrees. The display comes standard with Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with a 12-speaker system courtesy of Dynaudio. For gadgets, there’s a total of four USB charging ports and a 12V power socket.

Most notably, the Seal does 0-100kph in an impressive 3.8sec. This is the result of a dual-motor AWD powertrain, which draws juice from a 82.6kWh BYD Blade Battery.

The powertrain also dishes out a maximum driving range of 580km and a top speed of 180kph. In total, the Seal pushes out 529hp and 670Nm of torque.

Extra features

BYD prides the Seal on being a powerful but safe EV. The sedan is equipped with a six-sensor radar system, a head-up display, and a 360-degree camera system with see-through mode.

The CTB Technology does wonders for equal weight distribution, leading to a faster and smoother drive. Making its debut with the Seal, CTB Technology essentially fits the battery on the car’s entire floor—increasing rigidity for a safer and sharper driving experience.
