The Yaris Cross fits in the tight gap between the smaller Raize and the larger Corolla Cross. It’s unavoidable that there will be an overlap between the different models.
Last time, we compared the base Yaris Cross to the top-spec Raize. This time, we’ll compare the mid-spec Yaris Cross 1.5 V CVT (P1,296,000) to the base Corolla Cross 1.8 G CVT (P1,312,000). The price gap between the two Toyota models is just P16,000, and if you opt for the Scarlet SE or Attitude Black Mica two-tone paint on the Yaris Cross 1.5 V, that gap shrinks to just P6,000. Which one is the better deal, at least on paper? Let’s dive in for a closer look.

The Yaris Cross is 4,310mm long, 1,770mm wide, and 1,615mm tall, this makes it 150mm shorter, 55mm narrower, and 5mm lower than the Corolla Cross. The subcompact SUV rides on a 2,620mm wheelbase, which is interestingly only 20mm shorter than its bigger sibling’s.
The Yaris Cross boasts a 212mm ground clearance, which is 51mm greater than that of the bigger Corolla Cross. The Yaris Cross 1.5 V comes with 18-inch alloy wheels on 215/55 R18 tires, while the Corolla Cross 1.8 G is equipped with smaller 17-inch alloys shod with 215/60 R17 tires, the same size as the 1.5 G variant of the Yaris Cross.

As a refresher, the new Yaris Cross V is powered by a 1.5-liter gasoline engine which puts out 105hp and 138Nm of torque, while the Corolla Cross G is powered by a larger 1.8-liter gasoline mill which produces 138hp and 172Nm of torque. Both front-wheel-drive Toyota SUVs are equipped with a continuously variable transmission.
The ASEAN Yaris Cross is built on the B-segment version of the DNGA (Daihatsu New Global Architecture) platform, while the Corolla Cross is built on the short wheelbase C-segment version of the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform. Both Toyota SUVs use the same suspension layout, independent MacPherson struts up front, and a torsion beam setup at the rear. The Yaris Cross 1.5 V comes with six airbags, that’s one less than in the Corolla Cross G which gets a driver’s knee airbag. On the other hand, the subcompact SUV in V trim has a panoramic view camera which its bigger lower trim sibling doesn’t have. Each model has its strengths and weaknesses.
With a match this tight, we wouldn’t be surprised if you’re still undecided on which of the two Toyota SUVs is the better deal for you. Take a look at the spec-sheet we prepared below and let us know what you think.
