Well, someone in production is probably in hot water after this gaffe. Production for the upcoming Netflix heist film Red Notice ran into trouble after the movie’s leading man Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson found himself unable to fit inside the car chosen for a chase scene.
The crew and director only realized the gravity of the issue once Johnson tried and failed miserably to squeeze into the shoot’s Porsche Taycan—a vehicle that was shipped from overseas and took “months of prep and costs” to bring over. Johnson shared his hilarious experience on Instagram:
“And guess who’s too big to fit in yet another sports car and now we have to change the entire shot sequence around,” Johnson shared.
“For our @netflix globe-trotting heist movie, Red Notice, my writer/director @rawsonthurber (pictured here on the ground setting up the new camera angle) wrote this insane chase sequence where I hop in this iconic Porsche and be the bad ass behind the wheel that I am. Well, after months of prep and costs, buying and shipping this car over to the states, it’s time to rehearse the big chase sequence.”
Johnson adds, “Trying to shimmy into this Porsche like a big-ass brown marshmallow getting shoved into a coin slot.”
Finally, the director asks if he can fit inside the Taycan. After replying in the negative, the director exclaims: “Are you f****** with me?”
“After about 15 seconds of uncomfortable silence, Rawson, myself and the entire crew just started laughing our asses off!” Johnson says. “F*** it. Welcome to 2020.”
Fortunately, the crew found “creative” ways to get the shots it needed despite Johnson’s size disparity with the Taycan. This story alone makes us want to see how this film will turn out.
To be honest, we figure this is an easy mistake to make when you take into account how many rides The Rock has had to squeeze into as part of the Fast and Furious franchise. We guess someone just figured he’d fit in anything.
