The all-new Ranger measures 5,370mm long, 1,918mm wide, and 1,884mm tall. It has a 3,270mm wheelbase and 235mm of ground clearance. The base XL variant gets 16-inch steelies while the XLS gets 16-inch alloys. Both of these are shod in 255/70/ R16 rubber. The XLT sits on 17-inch alloys with 255/70 R17 tires, while higher Sport and Wildtrak trim are fitted with 18-inch alloy wheels wearing 255/65 R18 rubber.

Style-wise, the all-new Ranger looks much bolder than ever. Ford has ditched the trapezoidal grille and the small headlamps for C-shaped DRLs wrapped around the headlights that directly flank the wide new grille. Looking at this all-new model, it’s clear that it’s now designed more similarly to its bigger siblings such as the F-150.

The vehicle also looks bulkier from all around. Black plastic claddings now accentuate the wheel wells and added black trim at the rear end add a lot more ruggedness to the design. The tailgate also gets a design upgrade, with a stylish pair of taillights to match the new-look front fascia.

Interior

The Ranger still has one of the most premium cabins in the segment. Depending on the variant, the seats are stitched with fabric or leather. The Wildtrak variants get added badging and contrast stitching.

Not that the old Ranger’s interior look dated, but this one’s styling just looks much more modern. You can probably thank the massive screen on the dash for that. The layout also feels a bit unorthodox to some extent, as the door handles are hidden behind the armrest, and the push-to-start ignition protrudes from the steering column.

Engine and specs

The all-new Ranger packs a 2.0-liter turbodiesel that generates 168hp at 3,500rpm and 405Nm of torque between 1,750-2,500rpm. This can be had with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox. The top-of-the-line Wildtrak 4x4 variant comes with a 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel engine that churns out 207hp and 500Nm and is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The truck’s standard suspension setup is composed of a double wishbone with coil springs and an anti-roll bar up front and leaf springs out back. Stopping power is handled by front ventilated disc brakes and rear drum brakes. Wildtrak variants get ventilated discs all around.

Extra features

undefined

Standard in the new Ranger is a 10-inch Ford SYNC 4 infotainment system with Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay connectivity. Wildtraks get bigger 12-inch displays. All but the base variant gets six speakers. Save for the XL and XLS trims, the pickup also gets a wireless charger and a reversing camera.

A six-airbag system also comes as standard. Wildtrak variants, meanwhile, get one additional airbag as well as rear parking sensors. This top-spec trim is also equipped with an electronic parking brake and an eight-way power-adjust driver’s seat. Other added amenities in higher variants include a smart keyless entry with a push-to-start ignition, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, 230V inverter outlets in the second row and out back on the bed, and automatic climate controls with dual-zone functions.

undefined

Plenty of drive modes are available here. Save for the base XL variant, the Ranger comes with four selectable modes as standard. The 4x4 models get six modes in total, with the top-dog Wildtrak 4x4 getting an additional Terrain Management System feature.

Speaking of the top-spec Wildtrak, this also gets a host of added tech including adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go and lane-centering functions, auto high beam, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning and lane-keep assist, blind-spot detection with cross-traffic alert and braking, and a 360-degree-view monitor.
