The new GAC offerings in our market feature some eye-catching designs, feature-packed cabins, and attractive price points. Here’s another model that could tick all those boxes, and tap into the Alphard-dominated luxe people-mover segment: the GAC M8.
It’s not exactly a recent launch, but we got to see one in the metal this week in Guangzhou (in case you didn’t know, that’s what the G in the carmaker’s name stands for). While GAC hasn’t confirmed that the M8 is headed to our shores, considering the steady demand for the Toyota Alphard in the local market, we suspect the Chinese brand could be gauging buyers’ interest in such a model.

Here’s an interesting bit of trivia for you: The hybrid powertrain of the M8 is sourced from Toyota, and comprises a 190hp 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle engine mated to a 181hp electric motor. There’s also a plug-in hybrid version, as well as a non-electrified 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that generates 252hp and 400Nm of torque.

The M8’s front end with its imposing grille design can be recognized from some distance away, and the rear LED assembly gives it a unique lighting signature, too. But as with cars in this segment, the inside matters more than the outside, and the M8 doesn’t disappoint.
Passenger POV: GAC M8 interior
The M8 in ‘Master’ spec has a 2+2+3 configuration with captain chairs in the second row. This particular unit we saw had faux wood flooring, headrest-integrated speakers, and a touchscreen panel to control the seat settings.
We’ll leave you with more photos below and these questions: Should GAC Philippines bring in the M8, and what would you consider a fair price range for it?
