In want of a 911 resto that’s all mechanical, all retro, and all expensive? This 911 Speedster by Gunther Werks seems a suitable option. Only 25 units were ever made, and it could be the cleanest of the lot since it shows just 150km on the odometer. Probably explains the £800k (about P59.2 million)  it’s expected to fetch at RM Sotheby’s Monterey auction in a few weeks, too.

Based on the 993-generation’s air-cooled powertrain, the new owner will get a 4.0-liter flat-six that puts out around 436hp and 447Nm. 0-100? That’ll be under four seconds flat. Fairly deep reservoirs of performance, that, and come courtesy of forged pistons, a billet crankshaft, and individual throttle bodies.

The other big focus point was the suspension: you get a combination of active coilovers with bespoke arms, a front strut base and more focused uprights. It’s a pretty tasty setup and should mean the Speedster transitions from relaxed cruising to track-day fanatic with relative ease.

The proof sits in a 2020 lap the Speedster set at Laguna Seca, which clocked it in at just two-tenths slower than a McLaren P1. Surely slinging an actual roof slung on top would’ve leveled—or even bettered—the Holy Trinity inductee’s time outright?

Sticking with the exterior, the paint is called ‘Skyfall Silver’ and it’s from Dulux’s premium range. No wait, it’s actually from Aston Martin. Oops. Sitting beneath that thin layer are various carbonized body panels and a chassis made equally from the good stuff, and since it’s a Speedster, the general cues are a bit…unique.

That means no side windows, a tiny windscreen, a super wide track and all of a millimetre gap in the wheel well. There’s also a ducktail spoiler out back, those properly 911 five-spokes and a bit of extra contour along the light signatures. Works well with the sportier body kit attached, we think.

The interior is also wonderfully vintage, and features even more carbon, what appears to be a selection of in-period switchgear and Red Nappa upholstery from Merc to stitch it all together. Or maybe this bit really is from Dulux.

Looks like a fairly nice place to sit and ponder on a Saturday evening regardless… if you’ve got hypercar money to expend on that sort of thing.
