You must be thinking, “What the heck, Top Gear? What drivel is this? Where are the hard-hitting news, the car reviews, and the automotive updates?” We still have all of those. But hey, you clicked on this right?
Now that we know we’re on the same page, we just want to expound on the headline. It basically says it all. Ivana bought a brand-new Ford Territory for her younger sister, Mona. For those of you who don’t know much about Alawi for fear of being seen following her Instagram by their partners, Ivana is a half Filipina and half Moroccan actress and an influencer. Her aversion to clothing has led to 9.6 million followers on Instagram and 16.8 million subscribers on YouTube.
Her popularity exploded during the pandemic, as people stayed at home more and had extra time. A video she posted wearing a sando while doing household chores garnered 31 million views, lifting the morale of a populace being forced to wear senseless face shields.
In her most recent YouTube video, Ivana recounted how her sister needed transport for school, and the cars they had were not enough. Mona was eyeing the Ford Territory, which seems to attract young women.
Ivana decides to reward her younger sister with a new car, but in vlogger fashion decides to do a prank as well. The young actress went to a dealership in Pampanga and paid in cash. Kudos to the dealer for not forcing Ivana to pay via installment.
Then the sisters got into their Lexus LM, and supposedly drove off to meet the rest of their family. On the way the family driver pretended to hit a brand-new Territory from the rear, and an accomplice goes down and angrily does his best Willie Gonzales impression. Ivana alighted and showed her acting chops by pretending to argue with the Ford Territory “owner”.
We think the prank should have been obvious at this point. If we were driving along and a van hits us and Ivana Alawi alights from it, we would immediately apologize for not paying attention and avoiding her vehicle—even if it was behind us. We would then humbly ask for a selfie—from a high angle—and share the photo with our high school group chat.
The prank was revealed, Mona cried because of stress and relief—maybe both—and the sisters hugged. We have to admit it was touching to see the new owner’s eyes light up when she realized she now owns a new car. That feeling is priceless.
