It was wedding season last week, as two big celebrities tied the knot. One of them was Maine Mendoza, who needs no introduction. In a relatively private wedding (she reportedly asked her guests to be discreet in their social media posts), Mendoza married Congressman Arjo Atayde, whom she met while shooting a movie.
One of the scarce details that managed to leak out were the traditional gifts given by the newlyweds. Maine, now Mrs. Atayde, got an expensive bag that we would not be able to distinguish if we saw it in an SM department store.
But Mr. Atayde got a brand-new Toyota Land Cruiser. A photo in a Twitter fan account shows the groom beside a big white SUV with a bowtie. Even in the grainy photo, his new-car smile is as bright as day.

We were amazed that Maine was able to secure an LC300 unit. The scarcity of this model is almost legendary. Waiting lists for the 2023 Land Cruiser can stretch up to a year, although we heard that supply might ease to six months soon. Whoop-de-doo. We couldn’t get confirmation, but this is likely a local unit from an authorized Toyota dealer, not a gray market import.
Based on the grille design and that color, Maine purchased the more expensive ZX trim, which lists for P5,747,000. The Land Cruiser is powered by a 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that generates 302hp and an earth-moving 700Nm of torque. It’s also a seven-seater, so perfect for a future family?
Is a Land Cruiser too extravagant a gift? You’re asking the wrong person. The Land Cruiser is the ultimate go-anywhere vehicle. We would gladly receive such a gift with no guilt whatsoever.
