As far as executive rides go, the Mazda 6 is one of the most impressive around. Its styling, elegant and sporty, is always on point, and its interior, boasting premium materials and excellent NVH suppression, is one of the best in the business. It helps that the Japanese car manufacturer’s Skyactiv engines make the 6 a hoot to drive, too.
The new 6, flaunting more power and a redesigned interior, was recently introduced by Mazda Philippines . It’s also available in wagon form, too—not something that can be said of its competition.
Let’s take a look at what the refreshed Mazda 6 has to offer. Here’s everything you need to know:
Exterior
What can we say? The 6, whether as a sedan or a wagon, looks beautiful as ever. An intricate mesh grille surrounded by attractive chrome trim is flanked by sharp-looking swept-back headlights, giving off a look that’s both elegant and energetic. The front end and the fenders flow toward the sides effortlessly, thanks to relatively subtle character lines. The 6 rides on stylish 10-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels.
Wagon units feature a more rounded-out rear and roof rails. It’s an attractive estate look, and is the obvious choice for those of you looking to stand out a bit more from the crowd.
You can get the Mazda 6 sedan in Jet Black, Machine Gray, Snowflake White Pearl, Sonic Silver Metallic, and Soul Red Crystal. The wagon, meanwhile, can only be had in Machine Gray, Snowflake White Pearl, and Soul Red Crystal. Take your pick.
Interior
Mazda’s interiors have always been a nice, comfortable space to be in if you’re going to be stuck in traffic, but the new 6 takes the brand’s cabin experience to a whole different level.
Premium materials adorn every inch of this executive sedan’s interior, with ventilated seats featuring Deep Chestnut-colored leather upholstery, some attractive wood trim on the dashboard and the door panels, and plush suede accents. There’s also some piano-black plastic on the center console and the armrests if you’re into that, and some great-looking polished metal trim.
The dash features an ergonomic layout with controls all within reach of the driver, and the leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel feels great to the touch. The rear section features A/C vents for a little extra cooling power, and a sunroof is also available.
Engine and specs
The real update to the Mazda 6 can be found underneath the hood. You can now get the sedan with the carmaker’s Skyactiv 2.5-G in-line four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine, capable of 228hp at 5,000rpm and 420Nm of torque at 2,000rpm. A diesel option also remains for the sedan: a 2.2-liter turbodiesel with an output of 187hp at 4,500rpm and 450Nm at 2,000rpm.
Sports Wagon units only come available with Mazda’s 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G engine capable of 187hp at 6,000rpm and 253Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. All Mazda 6 units are equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission.
Also, the Mazda 6 Sports Wagon and turbocharged sedan get Sport Mode and G-Vectoring Plus (basically tech for improved driving dynamics), while the non-turbo sedan gets just G-Vectoring Control. Brakes are ventilated discs up front and solid discs in the back, while the suspension is a MacPherson-strut/multilink setup.
Extra features
Those of you who appreciate superb sound quality will be happy to know all Mazda 6 units come with a premium 11-speaker Bose sound setup paired with an eight-inch floating Mazda Connect touchscreen infotainment system featuring Apple CarPlay capability.
All units get adaptive LED headlights, though only the sedan comes with LED rear lamps. Front seats are power-adjustable, too. The car also gets paddle shifters for added engagement during drives and rain-sensing wipers.
Looking for a little extra convenience when parking? The entire Mazda 6 lineup comes equipped with a 360-degree camera and front and rear parking sensors. A blind-spot monitoring system comes as standard, though only the higher-end sedan and wagon feature rear cross-traffic alert.
Finally, the 6 comes equipped with six airbags: front driver and passenger, side, and curtain units.
