In this line of work, we often get to test out cars early on in their life cycles. Like the all-new Nissan Patrol, for example—Top Gear Philippines got first dibs on that one.
We’ve reviewed it, we’ve even done a comparo of it with none other than the Toyota Land Cruiser, but there was one thing we were unable to do: take it off-road. Until recently.
Nissan Philippines took us on a drive to Bataan to experience the all-new Patrol along with the brand’s other 4x4s on a long road trip with some off-roading on the side. By other 4x4s, of course, we mean the Terra and the Navara.

Our drive kicked off in Quezon City, and from there we took NLEX and SCTEX en route to Subic. We switched around the cars available in the lineup as we headed further towards Las Casas Filipinas De Acuzar in Bataan. Interestingly enough, that was where Nissan prepped a short off-road course for us.
It was unusual, but it also wasn’t an easy course. I have some experience off-road, but even that I found challenging, especially the steep incline into the drop where we tested the Patrol’s hill-descent control features, among many others.
