Netflix has released a new trailer for its Ayrton Senna biopic, 30 years since the legendary Brazilian tragically lost his life at Imola.
It kicks off with a pre-race ritual where viewers are introduced to Senna (played by Gabriel Leone) getting warmed up in his McLaren MP4/4—the car that won 15 of the 16 races during the 1988 Formula 1 season and was the most statistically dominant F1 car in history...until a certain Max Verstappen came along in the RB19.

That’s followed by a sequence of flashbacks of Senna as a child, which comes as no surprise since he started racing karts before he could read the alphabet, and then a short dialogue displaying his tempestuous nature.

There’s even a sneak preview of the Lotus 97T with which he won his first grand prix at Estoril. And given this series will detail most of his racing career, don’t be surprised to see the Williams FW16 feature, either—the car that Senna had captained on that fateful Imola drive.

Most of the cast have already been confirmed for the series, with roles for fierce rival Alain Prost, Frank Williams, and even Niki Lauda penned in. But while there are plenty of biopics about Senna already, where Netflix’s angle will look to differ is a deeper dive into his personal life. Many of those closest to him away from the track are said to feature heavily.
The six-part, single-season series will debut later this year at an as-yet-unconfirmed date. Time to start stockpiling the popcorn, folks.
