A look inside the 2018 Singapore Motorshow

It may be small, but it packs a few surprises

The 2018 Singapore Motorshow at Suntec Exhibition Center may well be a preview of what cars will be arriving in the Philippines—eventually. If you have a sharp eye, you can probably name a few of the models that are highlighted in the video. Did you spot the Nissan Leaf and Toyota C-HR?

Anyway, we were brought to Singapore by Motor Image Pilipinas, the distributors of Subaru in the Philippines, to learn what their EyeSight Technology is all about. And as promised, its EyeSight-equipped vehicles are already available locally. This is a very advanced optical driver-assist system that is like having an extra pair of eyes and a bodyguard watching over you.

When it comes to being alert on the road, especially during challenging conditions, every bit helps. Safety systems like EyeSight were once reserved for high-end luxury cars, but Subaru is making it more accessible down the line now. One day all variants in the Subaru stable will have it.

We never get tired of visiting cars shows, and even if the Singapore Motorshow isn’t like those massive ones in Tokyo, Paris, and Detroit, it has its own unique character. Buying and owning a car in Singapore is prohibitively expensive, but automobiles still have a massive following there. The constant crowd at the exhibition hall was proof of that.
