New pickups keep coming in left and right, so now we’ve decided to pit two new arrivals and have come up with a pretty heavy bout: the all-new Isuzu D-Max versus the updated Ford Ranger.
We’ve hand-picked the top-spec D-Max LS-E 4x4 to go against the highest non-Raptor Ranger variant, the bi-turbo Wildtrak 4x4, and it’s a rather interesting comparo.
On the one hand, you have the range-topping P1,825,000 D-Max LS-E powered by a new 3.0-liter turbodiesel that churns out 187hp and 450Nm of torque. This powertrain comes mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox. On the other, you have the P1,728,000 Ranger Wildtrak and its 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel mill that generates 210hp and 500Nm of torque. This features the same setup as the Ranger Raptor with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
The numbers seem to go in favor of the Ranger, right? Well, in terms of added niceties, it’s a bit of a mixed bag. The newer D-Max gets a significantly bigger infotainment system with an extra pair of speakers. It also gets blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert—the Ranger has neither of these.
All that being said, a good chunk of the D-Max’s other safety features are also available in the Ranger, and that’s something to note considering the sizeable price difference between the two. For P100,000 less, you still get important on- and off-road assistive tech like lane-keep assist, frontal-collision warning with autonomous emergency braking, and hill-start assist and hill-descent control in the Ford. What’s more, it also boasts an active park assist feature, and that’s a really helpful feature for a machine this big.
Frankly, it’s really tough to pick between these two. So, you can just check out the specs of these trucks below and be the judge yourself. Tell us below which of these two you’d rather go for, and share your thoughts in the comments. Keep an eye out for our reviews of these vehicles, too, coming soon.
