Playing a track via your car’s Bluetooth setup is a pretty straightforward affair: You connect to an infotainment system, and after a few taps of its touchscreen, you’re good to go.
But what if you drive an older vehicle without a touchscreen? Well, if you’re in this boat, Spotify wants to pitch a solution to you: The Car Thing.
In case you missed our earlier report about this product, this ‘thing’ is basically a standalone Spotify media device equipped with a touchscreen and some neat knobs and dials. If your car doesn’t come with a touchscreen, you can mount the Car Thing on your dashboard or A/C vent and control your tunes from there.
YouTuber Joshua Chang recently got his hands on a Car Thing to see what its proposition is all about. Watch:
Our observations based on Chang’s video? There’s definitely still a place for the Car Thing in older vehicles, but at the rate carmakers are churning out more advanced infotainment systems, it might not be for long. Also, the touchscreen on this seems awfully laggy, which is definitely an issue. It’s a neat approach toward solving a common issue in outdated cars, though.
Anyone here who would be open to hooking their ride up with one of these? Or would you rather go all-out and just get your ride a touchscreen head unit?
