After years of missing out on the subcompact-crossover segment, Suzuki Philippines finally has a new offering on its hands: the all-new Suzuki Fronx.
It’s the Japanese carmaker’s answer to the smaller subcompacts like the Toyota Raize. It’s decently spec’d, reasonably priced, and comes with mild-hybrid engine options.
Now, before we proceed, we’ll start by clarifying that the mild-hybrid Fronx will not be registered with green plates. This means there will be no coding exemptions for this one. We know there’ll be a lot of you who’ll be asking this, so it’s best to get it out of the way from the get-go.

Variants and prices of the Suzuki Fronx

Three variants are available for the Fronx at launch, starting with the petrol-only GL trim priced at P1.059 million—the two higher variants get the mild-hybrid assistance. Color options come aplenty: Snow White Pearl and Magma Gray Metallic are available for the GL and GLX, while the GLX and SGX can be had in either Savannah Ivory Metallic or Ice Grayish Blue Pearl Metallic with a Cool Black Pearl Metallic Roof. The SGX gets an exclusive two-tone finish with the same roof color but with a Snow White Pearl body.

Exterior of the Suzuki Fronx

The Fronx features a sculpted front end with a chrome trim flanking the shiny Suzuki badge on and splitting the grille into two sections. Unlike most modern crossovers, this one doesn’t have a wide, gaping grille up front. Thin, swept-back headlamps accentuate the front fascia, while black plastic claddings wrap around the vehicle. Additional gray skid plates are found up front and at the back.
Speaking of the rear, a large lightbar spans the width of the liftgate, matching nicely with the vehicle’s swooping design. There’s a subtle spoiler as well as roof railings up top. The Fronx sits on 16-inch alloy wheels as standard, with the ones on the hybrid variants getting the blacked-out treatment.
As mentioned, the Fronx falls on the smaller side of the subcompact-crossover segment. It measures 3,995mm long, 1,765mm wide, and 1,550mm tall. It has a 2,520mm wheelbase, a 4.8m turning radius, and 170mm of ground clearance. Rear storage capacity is 304 liters, which expands further to 605 liters with the rear seats folded down. Curb weight, meanwhile, ranges from 985 to 1,060kg, with the hybrids being slightly heavier.
Interior of the Suzuki Fronx

Fabric seats adorn the cabin as standard, while the top-spec GLX Hybrid gets synthetic leather. It’s got decent space for a five-seater, and it’s got a more modern interior compared to its Suzuki stablemates. In the top-spec trim, a two-tone interior colorway is also available.
Engine and specs of the Suzuki Fronx

Two engines are available, the first one being the 1.5-liter K15B four-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 103hp and 138Nm of torque. The second is a 1.5-liter K15C petrol mill capable of 99hp and 135Nm which is paired with a 12V mild-hybrid system. The latter comprises a 0.12kWh lithium-ion battery and a 3hp electric motor. The non-hybrid gets a four-speed automatic, while the mild-hybrid comes with a six-speed auto.
Underneath, the Fronx’s suspension is made up of MacPherson struts up front and a torsion beam at the rear. Stopping power is handled by ventilated front discs and rear drum brakes.
Extra features of the Suzuki Fronx

The all-new Suzuki Fronx comes standard with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The base trim gets a seven-inch head unit with four speakers, while higher trims get a nine-inch infotainment with an extra two tweeters.
Driver amenities include cruise control for the mid-spec GLX and adaptive cruise control for the SGX. The range-topping version also gets a head-up display as well as a full suite of safety systems, including lane-departure warning and prevention, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Hill-start assist and rear parking sensors come as standard, but in the top-of-the-line variant, a 360-degree-view camera is available as well.
