Suzuki Philippines recently introduced the all-new Fronx. It’s Suzuki’s re-entry in one of the most stacked segments in the market right now, and these are exciting times ahead for the Japanese brand.

It’s quite the looker, and it’s arguably one of the freshest-looking Suzukis we’ve seen in a while. It appears the carmaker really put a lot of emphasis on styling, so much so that during the launch, Suzuki Motor Corporation chief engineer Takashi Yokoyama took the time to share the story behind the design.

Yokoyama shared that a conversation with a customer was what sparked the inspiration for the design. The customer supposedly said that a beautiful vehicle is “something that combines strength, power, and style,” after which he pointed to a photo of a horse running at full speed. “Strong, graceful, and beautiful—that was exactly the image we wanted to achieve,” recalled Yokoyama.

There were teams in India and Japan competing for the design under the themes sports, crossover, and coupe, and Suzuki shared that it chose a “daring and modern design” instead of one that was safe and conservative. The result was this coupe-like SUV with a “dynamic body profile inspired by agility and power.”

True enough, the Fronx does have a very striking exterior, and is really far from the aforementioned “conservative” design that we see from other Suzuki models. The Japanese automaker also said that “family remained at the heart of the project,” hence, the spacious cabin.

The name, meanwhile, comprises ‘Fron’ derived from ‘frontier’ and the ‘X’ from ‘crossover.’ It “signifies new possibilities” as Suzuki takes a step into what it sees as uncharted territory.

“The Fronx was born with strength and beauty as its theme,” said Yokoyama. “It is not only a stylish coupe SUV, but also a car designed to bring smiles to everyone who rides in it. As Suzuki’s new flagship SUV, we are confident it will set a new standard in the compact SUV segment.”
