Only 351 Toyota 2000GTs were ever built, and this is one of them. It’s a left-hand-drive version that has lived its life in the States—one of three new 2000GTs supplied to Otto Linton, a revered Watkins Glen driver.
Because it’s a left-hand-drive version, it’s one of only 62 cars delivered to America, and this very car has now come up for auction at RM Sotheby’s ‘Elkhart Collection’ sale. Good, clean, well-kept Toyota 2000GTs rarely stick their heads above the water, so this one is special.
Linton kept hold of it for over 30 years, after which it passed through a couple of owners, was restored, and now sits in a “high standard.” There’s the Yamaha-tweaked straight-six with 150hp. There’s its near-perfect weight distribution. There’s a 217kph top speed.
Yes, RM Sotheby’s estimates it’ll go for between $750,000 (P36.39 million) and $850,000 (P41.24 million), and is therefore out of reach for mere mortals (we can but dream). However, for non-mortals, what a car.
