It’s Tokyo Auto Salon season, which means the nicest and the wildest builds from the Land of the Rising Sun are set to come out. A few have already surfaced on cyberspace, and there’s one that’s already making the rounds: this Toyota GT86 widebody kit from tuner Result Japan.
It’s called the NEO86, and it basically gives the modern 86 that legendary hachi-roku look. Yes, the two-tone black and white finish and Watanabe wheels, complete with the pop-up headlights. Cue Pop-Up Up and Down Headlights by Donut.

The kit is tastefully done, and it makes the GT86 look perfect for a modern-day installment of Initial D. Or maybe for MF Ghost. It’ll be on display at TAS this year, and event-goers will be able to take a closer look at it there.

The entire kit includes everything, from the front bumper, fenders, and door panels to the spoiler out back, all of which are built of fiberglass-reinforced plastic. Result Japan, however, has clarified that installation will require cutting into the car’s body, so this isn’t reversible. If you do get one for your 86, there won’t be any turning back.
There was a time when this was all the rage in the world of automotive design. A lot of the JDM legends we know and love had these headlights. If it weren’t for safety standards, manufacturing costs, and even reliability concerns, we’d probably still have these in a lot of cars today. But hey, at least we get to enjoy builds like these more.
