Okay, so Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has finally confirmed the Lite Ace’s arrival. We reckon other carmakers with light commercial vehicles in their lineups must be on their toes for this launch.

Suzuki Philippines (SPH) is one brand that should be taking notice, as the Lite Ace will be a direct competitor to its LCV, the Suzuki Carry. We’re actually very eager to pit the two against each other, but unfortunately, TMP has yet to release any official specs.

We do have some details to work with, though, as we’ve already gotten our hands on the Lite Ace’s potential specs. So while we wait for the launch this Friday, we’ll work with what we have and use these deets to compare Toyota’s upcoming LCV with the Carry. TMP already confirmed that the Lite Ace will start at P570,000, and based on the info we have, that’s the pickup version—a perfect match against the Carry dropside truck.

Let’s check out the price tags first, of course. Surprisingly, the Toyota will sell for much, much lower than the Suzuki. As mentioned, the Lite Ace pickup has a P570,000  SRP, while the Carry, er, carries a P624,000 price tag.

Next up, let’s talk size and capacities. The Lite Ace Pickup will supposedly measure 4,195mm long, 1,675mm wide, and 1,920mm tall. It’ll have a 950kg payload capacity . The Carry, Truck, meanwhile, stands 4,195mm long, 1,765mm wide, and 1,910mm tall and has a 940kg payload capacity. That makes things pretty even so far.

Under the hood, the Lite Ace is expected to come with a 1.5-liter in-line-four gasoline engine across the range. This power unit churns out 97hp and 134Nm of torque and is only be available with a five-speed manual gearbox. The Carry is also fitted with a 1.5-liter four-banger gasoline mill generating 96hp and 135Nm of torque. This will also come mated solely to a five-speed manual ’box. Still even, then.

Actually, the other mechanical aspects of these two are also still similar across the board. Both of their suspension setups consist of MacPherson struts up front and a leaf spring at the rear, both will get front disc and rear drum brakes, and both will get a rear-wheel-drive configuration. The only notable difference here is that the Lite Ace sits on 14-inch steel wheels while the Carry gets 13-inch steelies.

Perhaps one good comparison would be ground clearance, as the Carry does appears to have an edge in this regard. Unfortunately, we’ve yet to get those figures from Toyota, so we’ll have to wait for the launch until we find out. Rest assured, we’ll also do a proper spec-sheet brawl and even a Big Test once the Lite Ace is launched.

Anyhoo, if these specs do hold true, what do you guys think?
