After receiving her Kia Stonic and Foton TransVan, Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz has another brand-new ride to park in her garage. It’s a two-wheeler this time: a Suzuki Skydrive Sport given to her by Suzuki Philippines.
While Diaz has admitted that she’s not yet comfortable driving a car, it turns out she’s spent quite a bit of saddle time on scooters back home in Zamboanga. She told Top Bikes Philippines that she was a lakwatsera back then, and that she used to ride scooters to get to her training sessions and hangouts with friends.
Her 2021 Skydrive Sport is finished in Matte Blue. “I personally chose that color,” she said. “I really like it.”
While she took delivery of the unit in Metro Manila, she requested for it to be sent home to Zamboanga City—but not before a quick spin. Check out her first ride of the 115cc scooter below:
“We are one with the whole nation in celebrating Ms. Hidilyn Diaz’s success at the recent Summer Olympics in Tokyo,” says Jun Bulot, general manager for motorcycle sales and marketing at Suzuki Philippines. “After learning that Ms. Hidilyn loves riding a motorcycle, we thought that it would be a good idea to give her a Skydrive Sport as a token of appreciation to her for giving honor and inspiration to the Filipinos.”
Incidentally, we’ve come up with a list of two-wheelers that Diaz, in theory, can probably lift, based on her Olympic record-setting 127kg clean and jerk. Two Suzuki models made the cut. You can check out that feature here. And just in case she wants to add another new ride or two to her garage, we’ve come up with some suggestions as well.
