BMW Motorrad entered the premium midsize scooter game in 2017 with the introduction of the C400 X, which was aimed squarely at the urban mobility segment. The German brand followed up in 2018 with the C400 GT, a Gran Turismo variant focused on touring and comfort. To ensure these two scooters stay competitive into the future, BMW has upgraded the pair with new styling, colors, technical optimizations, and more.
The 350cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine shared between the X and the GT is capable of 34hp at 7,500rpm and 35Nm of torque at 5,750rpm. Updates to this power plant include an ‘E-gas’ electronic throttle grip, an electronically operated throttle valve, and a new engine management system. Further optimizations include a modified catalytic converter, a wideband oxygen sensor, modifications to the cylinder head, a new-generator cover sensor, as well as modifications to the wiring harness and idle speed control. In addition to performance and efficiency tweaks, the revisions to the powertrain also allow the scooters to comply with Euro 5 regulations.
Paired to the 350cc thumper is a CVT with revised clutch springs for smoother shifts and a more refined riding experience.
Automatic Stability Control (ASC) on the two scooters has been revised to handle lower friction values than before. The new ASC also automatically recalibrates after tire changes, eliminating the need for manual radius calibration. The brakes on the two C400 scooters are also updated with new calipers and revised lever travel for both levers.
The creature comforts are updated too, with underseat storage lighting now coming from above instead of from the side, and a USB charging socket now installed in the front right storage compartment.
New paint options for the two scooters are as follows:
2021 BMW C400 X
- Blackstorm metallic
- Granite Grey metallic
- Sport
2021 BMW C400 GT
- Alpine White
- Kallisto Grey metallic
- Triple Black
No official word yet on when the updated C400 X and C400 GT will arrive on our shores.
