It seems like Christmas came early this year because the updated Mazda CX-5 is already here. The 2020 model of this Japanese compact crossover is equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission with Sport mode, and for now, it’s offered with a gasoline engine. Diesel units will be available next year, according to Mazda Philippines.
The model now also comes with G-Vectoring Control Plus, an evolution of Mazda’s G-Vectoring Control technology. GVC Plus provides the vehicle occupants a more comfortable ride by subtly applying the brakes on the outer wheels as the vehicle exits a corner, allowing it to straighten out of the turn in a stable and controlled manner.
In addition, Mazda has equipped the CX-5 with a new urethane mount for the rear dampers, then increased the diameter of the front dampers. The 2020 model also has aligned coil springs for smoother diagonal roll when entering corners, promising improved ride comfort.
The new CX-5 comes in three variants: the range-topping 2.5L Sport AWD with 190hp and 252Nm of torque, and the 2.0L Sport 2WD and the 2.0L Pro 2WD, both putting out 156hp and 200Nm.
Aside from GVC Plus in all variants, standard equipment across the range includes leather seats and trim, smartphone mirroring, dynamic stability control (DSC), and a smart keyless entry system. For the 2.5 AWD Sport variant, additional features include an electric glass sunroof and 19-inch alloy wheels. Both Sport variants come with a 10-speaker Bose sound system, a power liftgate, an active driving display, and a 360-view camera.
