It appears Mitsubishi Motors Philippines isn’t done with the Strada just yet. The Japanese car manufacturer has brought in another variant of its popular pickup truck just a week after launching the new Strada GL.
This is the 2020 Mitsubishi Strada Athlete—a more rugged and sporty version of the model. The vehicle was first launched in Thailand late last year, and should compete directly with the likes of the Toyota Hilux Conquest locally.
Changes? It’s 4WD and packs the same 2.4-liter DOHC diesel engine capable of 178hp and 430Nm of torque as other Strada units, but it flaunts a host of upgrades to its appearance inside and out.
Several exterior components have been blacked out, including its alloy wheels, front grille, side mirror housings, side steps, and roof. The vehicle also gets an attractive and sporty orange paint job with special decals.
The cabin, meanwhile, features orange and gray leather seats. No specifics regarding new features just yet as the Strada Athlete hasn’t been officially introduced to the market, but we’ve been told it gets at least rain-sensing wipers and an additional front camera. No word, though, on whether the latter is for a 360-degree view camera like in Thai units.
How much for the burlier look and extra features? At dealerships, the Strada Athlete is listed at P1,760,000. That’s P50,000 more than the top-of-the-line Strada 2.4 GT 4WD AT.
We’ll have more details when the vehicle is finally introduced. When is that, exactly? We don’t know, but our hunch is it will be revealed during the Xpander Cross’s launch event. Do you think these upgrades are worth the higher price tag?
