Tesla may have beaten everyone else to the game with the big—albeit controversial—reveal of the Cybertruck, but it seems that its competitors may soon catch up. Automotive startup Rivian, in particular, has something up its sleeve that could easily rival what Tesla’s truck has to offer.
We’re talking about the Rivian R1T, the autonomous electric pickup that can do 0-60mph (97kph) in 3secs flat on the way to a top speed of 201kph. But that’s not all this truck can do, apparently—we’ve just learned that it can do ‘tank turns,’ too. Take a look below:
That’s what Rivian calls a ‘Quad Motor Tank Turn,’ and it does look impressive. If there’s one thing pickup-truck owners have the most difficulty with, it’s maneuvering in tight spaces. By the looks of this video, future R1T owners probably wouldn’t need to worry about such a problem. Oh, and Rivian has also said that this feature will also be equipped in its SUV, the R1S.
The R1T, for lack of a better word, looks normal—at least compared with how Tesla’s truck design played out. The latter may have a more futuristic look, but the former’s traditional styling might make it more acceptable once it finally rolls off the production line. What do you think?
