The Volkswagen ID.6 isn’t the only big reveal the German automaker made at the 2021 Auto Shanghai. VW has also just pulled the wraps off of the Talagon, one of its largest SUVs to date.
The Talagon is a product of Volkswagen and FAW’s joint venture in China and is based on the MQV Evo platform. It’s what VW calls a “fusion of an SUV and MPV.” That does make sense when you look at its dimensions.
The Talagon stands 5,152mm long, 2,002mm wide, and 1,795mm tall. For context, the PH-spec Toyota Land Cruiser measures 5,095mm x 1,980mm x 1,945mm, while the Nissan Patrol stands at 5,165mm x 1,995mm x 1,955mm. That makes this Volkswagen wider but shorter in height than the other two large SUVs.
As for its styling, it doesn’t stray too far away from the styling of the other models in VW’s global lineup. In fact, its face reminds us of the T-Cross.
Inside, the Talagon is as premium as what you’d expect from a full-size SUV. Its maker didn’t discuss specifics of the interior, but we do see a massive digital display up front, a somewhat floating center console, sleek cabin lighting, and white quilted leather seats.
The Talagon can also be had with six or seven seats, with the former coming with captain’s chairs.
Under the hood, the Talagon is powered by a 2.5-liter V6 TSI engine mated to a DQ501 gearbox. The SUV features Volkswagen’s 4Motion 4WD system. No specific engine figures were provided, though. No word on what added tech will come available, either, but the initial photos suggest the Talagon will get a few safety features.
