If by chance you’ll be in Tokyo around mid-January, we’d like to remind you that the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon is happening around that time, and as a gearhead, you’ll want to check it out. You’re welcome.

So, let’s whet your appetite for the 2024 installment, shall we? Nissan has just previewed its showcase for the event, happening from January 12 to 14 at the Makuhari Messe. Here are the various concepts that the Yokohama-based manufacturer will be bringing to the Tokyo Auto Salon next month:

Nissan Disaster Support Mobile-Hub

The Caravan-based Disaster Support Mobile-Hub intends to do exactly what it says on the tin, and for that, it carries Nissan Leaf batteries that have been repurposed as portable power-supply units—essentially big power banks—for emergency medical and communications devices in disaster-struck areas.

The technology, first previewed in 2022, went on sale in September this year.

Beams, in case you didn’t know, is a clothing and lifestyle company based in Tokyo. For the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon, it has collaborated with Nissan on a customized Roox concept that embodies its laidback character inspired by American casual wear and college-dorm lifestyle.

The main theme here appears to be denim, which has been used to upholster the concept’s seats. Denim-blue accents are also scattered tastefully across the cabin and the exterior, along with the Beams logo.

Nissan March Customized Concept

You know how cars can be an extension of yourself? This custom March is apparently Nissan’s take on a vehicle owned by, well, a pastry chef, “as an example of young people who have found their vocation.”

Said chef seems to specialize in matcha-flavored pastries, judging from the car’s interior...

And now we move on to cars we don’t have here but would like to have here. Nissan tuning and customization specialist Autech has new versions of the X-Trail, which might be landing on our shores soon, and the Serena, which, sadly, has no chance of arriving in our market until a left-hand-drive version makes it to production.

“Both concepts further enhance the sense of luxury, enabling a linear, fun, sporty, comfortable and stable ride from city driving to long drives,” says Nissan. Not everyone will be a fan of the brightwork on these, but the exterior bits do complement Autech’s signature blue quite well.

Nissan X-Trail Crawler Concept

We only have a teaser of Nissan’s main show car for the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon, as well as a paragraph describing what it is: “Based on the authentic SUV model X-Trail, the X-Trail Crawler Concept has a boosted off-road flavor and gear toughness. The exterior represents a world of rock-crawling, running through steep and rough terrain, and the luggage area contains the tools that have always been looked for in the X-Trail.”

So, an X-Trail beefed up to handle off-road excursions, packed with tools and gear that will allow it to get the job done no matter how challenging the conditions. We’ll wait for the full reveal next month, then.
