What makes it special?

There’s no shortage of Ford Everest variants to choose from. We’re not just talking about the local units, as the international models have pretty sweet variations. Case in point, the ‘Raptor Lite’ Tremor model that’s (sadly) only for Australia. At least for now.

The same goes for the Everest Sport models. Over in Thailand, there’s a new special edition variant that might appeal to the lifestyle-oriented audience. More specifically, it's for those who don’t necessarily have off-road adventures, but need the space of a larger SUV and a little more style. We’ll explain why later.

So, what makes it special? In terms of cosmetics, it rides on 20-inch gloss black alloy wheels with a single red spoke. It’s similar to the wheels used in the Ranger Stormtrak that’s still available in other markets. And whereas the standard Everest Sport has a gloss black roof, this special edition gets a matte finish.

Okay, it sounds like the usual ‘Black Edition’ treatment then. However, what makes this Special Edition more, er, special are the additional safety features. In this case, it benefits from some goodies seen in the higher-spec Titanium models.

Advanced driver assists are present in this model. It includes adaptive cruise, autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, and more. These features are currently unavailable in the current Everest Sport models. Hopefully, it becomes standard in more variants down the line.

In case you missed the headline, this model only comes with two-wheel drive. At least the additional safety features make up for it. As for the engine, it’s the single turbo 2.0-liter diesel unit that powers all rear-wheel drive Everests. That means a power output of 168hp and 405Nm. It then shifts with a six-speed automatic.

At the moment, there is no word if it will be offered outside of Thailand. That said, we do wish a 4x4 version of this variant joins the range eventually.
