Some folks seem to forget that the Mazda BT-50 is one of their options in the pickup class. It used to be the mechanical twin of the Ford Ranger, but these days, it’s based on the Isuzu D-Max.

And, like the D-Max, the BT-50 also gets a major facelift. Set for the 2025 model year, the new Mazda pickup gets a whole host of updates and upgrades to keep it fresh.

The most obvious changes are seen at the front. There are new headlights that resemble the CX-5 and CX-50, as well as a redesigned grille. Mazda also changed the bumpers, and there are also new wheel designs for this model change. There are other exterior tweaks, too. First is the reshaped tailgate that features a ridge pattern, and the second is the refreshed LED tail light design.

Inside, it appears to be carried over from the pre-facelift model. However, one will notice the larger infotainment display and it now measures nine inches. The instrument cluster’s multi-information display screen is also larger with the analog parts pushed further aside.

To further differentiate the BT-50 from the D-Max, Mazda added more premium trims and materials on the dashboard and interior panels.

Other additions? The new BT-50 now comes with USB-C ports. There’s also wireless Android Auto that compliments the wireless Apple CarPlay already featured in the outgoing model. Higher-spec variants can even be specified with Maztex, Mazda’s leather and suede combination seats that’s also used in other models. Safety systems also get an upgrade with the addition of rear cross traffic alert, traffic jam assist, and motorcycle and detection.

There are no changes under the hood of the 2025 Mazda BT-50, at least for the Australian market. The lone option there is the 3.0-liter turbodiesel lifted straight from the D-Max. It’s good for 188hp and 450Nm with shifting provided by a six-speed automatic. Four-wheel drive is optional and comes with terrain management systems and a rear differential lock.
