Unless you grew up with a steady diet of supercars, no one can ever accuse the current V8-powered Ford Mustang of being slow. Besides, the seventh-gen GT V8 can get to 100kph from a standstill somewhere in the four-second range.
What to go even faster? There’s the Dark Horse with 500hp, a track-tuned suspension, and a 0 to 100kph time just under four seconds. But, of course, there will be those who will want even more power under the hood.

Enter, the Shelby Super Snake, and it’s possibly the wildest Mustang yet with a factory warranty. It’s also Shelby’s first ‘Stang based on the all-new model (known as the S650 for you Mustang die-hards), and what a way to make an entrance.
For starters, it packs even more horsepower than the outgoing GT500. The GT500 made 760hp and 847Nm of torque from its 5.2-liter supercharged V8. But the Super Snake dials it up to 11 by stuffing the 5.0-liter V8 with over 830 hp thanks to an even more powerful supercharger. Should it have the grip to match the power, we might be seeing acceleration times to 100kph in the low three-second range.
Power is nothing without control. In the case of the Shelby Super Snake, the entire chassis has been given an overhaul. It comes with a unique suspension arrangement, along with stronger brakes and lightweight magnesium wheels. The Super Snake also gets hardened extended wheel studs, a one-piece drive shaft, a Shelby extreme cooling system, and an upgraded exhaust courtesy of Borla. By the way, you can get this one with an honest to goodness six-speed manual. An automatic is available, and so is the option to go for the convertible body style.
The Super Snake also goes on a bit of a diet. The more aggressive body isn’t just for show as most of those panels have been replaced with wither carbon fiber or aluminum. This isn’t just some tacked on body kit, folks. As for the interior, there are several unique Shelby touches inside. There’s the usual thicker bucket seats and a generally racier there in there, but the most important thing inside is its serialized plaque on the dashboard.
See, Shelby will only make 250 units of the Super Snake for the United States and each one will get that plaque of honor. In a country that easily sees millions of cars sold every year, this Shelby is bound to become a rare sight on the road. Not only that, Shelby will even build limited quantities of export market models besides the 250 units earmarked for the US.
Fingers crossed then that Ford Philippines manages to get even just one unit of this wild snake.
