Still can’t take your eyes off the new BMW M4’s new grille for all the wrong reasons? Well, the coupe has just been given a new look, and it might change your mind about it. And this time, it’s not just BMW that did the designing—the carmaker teamed up with popular New York lifestyle brand Kith to create this special-edition M4.
This is the new BMW M4 Competition x Kith. The limited-run model—only 150 units will be built—features unique design details inside and out. For this specific M4, BMW has brought back the phased-out Cinnabar Red paint finish that was originally used in the E30 M3.
The M4 also sports Kith logos that take the place of the M4 Competition badges on the trunk lid. What’s more, it wears a special BMW x Kith fusion logo that can be found on the hood and the tiller. This is supposedly the first time the German carmaker has altered its badge for a collaboration partner.
More Kith elements can be found inside, such as on the center console and the front head restraints. The cabin also gets striking tricolor M Carbon leather bucket seats that add further contrast against the black interior scheme.
No mechanical changes can be seen here—the M4 still packs a 510hp, 650Nm twin-turbo straight-six engine mated to an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with DriveLogic.
“Keeping a close eye on the latest streetstyle developments is part of our approach to evolving the BMW brand,” said Jens Thiemer, BMW’s senior vice president for customer and brand. “With his ideas and Kith label, Ronnie Fieg is one of the outstanding minds and opinion leaders in the worlds of fashion, lifestyle, and luxury. Our collaboration with Ronnie and his influential brand will be a positive force for BMW as we explore new customer groups.”
“Everything we work on at Kith has to come from an authentic place,” explained Kith founder Ronnie Fieg. “Some of my favorite memories from growing up are going to visit my grandfather and riding around in his BMWs in the ’80s. I remember he had an E21 320i and that his prized possession was an E30 M3. These moments in my life really shaped my passion for BMW, so working on this project with them has brought everything full circle.”
What’s your take on this special M4? Is the grille still giving you second thoughts, or has the new design won you over already?
