BYD Philippines has no shortage of electrified vehicles. If anything, it’s literally their whole business model. From hatchbacks and sedans, all the way to crossovers, there’s a BYD vehicle that suits the budget.

However, there is one type of vehicle that’s still absent from the lineup. No, we’re not talking about the Shark 6 which is expected to arrive soon. We’re talking about an MPV.

BYD has a whole arsenal of people carriers that can potentially be sold here. However, we spotted something rather interesting while browsing LTO’s Memorandum Circular list. There, we saw the approval papers for the BYD eMax 7, also known as the Song Max or M6 in other parts of Asia.

Yes, the company is finally dipping its toes in the MPV arena. It plans to leave a mark in the highly competitive segment by going fully electric. An interesting strategy, indeed.

The BYD eMax 7 measures around 4.7 meters long, meaning it’s close to the size of a Toyota Innova. The variant seen in the LTO website at the time of writing was the Superior Captain, so it’s the six-seater version with captain’s chairs in the second-row.

Based on the documents, it has a theoretical range of 530km, suggesting that the local units might come with a sizable 71.8kWh battery. It’s worth noting that, despite being based on a combustion engine model, the eMax 7 uses BYD’s Blade Battery technology.

Power was listed at 150kw or about 201hp. It’s similar in output to the Atto 3 and likely uses the same mechanicals. The LTO listed charging times at 11 hours for AC charging and 45 minutes for DC charging.

That’s all the information available for now. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for any updates surrounding this electric MPV in the coming weeks. Who knows, the clever DM-i plug-in hybrid version might be offered, too.
