Say station wagon and Chinese cars are likely the last thing on your mind. More often than not, it’s the European marques that offer one, along with a few Japanese automakers. Okay, there are a few Chinese ones out there, but they’re not really on anyone’s radar.

But BYD wants to change that perception. With the European market in its crosshairs, it’s preparing something that might appeal to that region. In case you didn’t see the headline, that would be an electrified station wagon.

The car has made its unofficial reveal care of the China Ministry of Industry and Information Technology files. To oversimplify things, it’s the wagon version of the Seal 06 DM-i. It’s the sister car of the Qin DM-i, although that one won’t get the more practical bodystyle.

Some specs were shown in the government filings, namely its dimensions and battery sizes. It measures 4,850mm long, 1,890mm wide, 1,505mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,790mm. That puts it in the midsize segment and, more crucially, slightly larger than some of Europe’s most popular wagons. For reference, its dimensions are greater than the BMW 3-Series Touring and Mercedes-Benz C-Class T-Modell.

As it’s a DM-i, the Seal 06 uses a 1.5-liter engine to a single electric motor and BYD’s Blade Battery tech. Battery capacity options start off at 10.08kWh to 15.97kWh, giving it a pure electric range of approximately 80 to 120km. As for power output, it could range from 161hp to 215hp, based on the Seal 06 sedan’s specifications.

It’s safe to say that this model has strong potential in Europe, but what about the rest of the world? More importantly, what are the odds of it coming to the Philippines. If we’re being honest, the chances are slim to zero. Well, that’s our fault for not buying enough of them in the first place.
