Here comes BYD with another new EV heading for the Philippine market. Continuing a solid outing so far in 2024—debuting the Sealion, Seagull, and the recently announced Seal—BYD is showing no signs of slowing down as it seems the Song L is on its way to our market.

So far the Song L is only available in China with units popping around in different parts of the world. This EV is not to be confused with its super hybrid counterpart, the Song Plus DM-i which boasts a 1,000km driving range.

According to its homologation papers, as published by the Land Transporation Office (LTO), the Song L drives a maximum range of 550km with a top speed of 201kph.

While the hybrid Song Plus DM-i looks like a more traditional, city-driving SUV, the Song L features sharper finishes to give it a meaner look while on the road. For the complete picture, the car measures at 4840mm long, 1560mm high, and 1950mm wide. Ground clearance is about 140mm as well.

The LTO is classifying it as an SUV, but the five-seater’s size looks more in line with a taller Seal or a shorter, sportier Sealion. While no official pictures have been released by BYD, Chinese media outlets and car exporters have shared their own photos from the release last year. BYD also has not commented on whether or not the Song L will receive a facelift before hitting Philippine roads as the EV is already a year old in the Chinese market.

Price is a whole other story as there is no official listing from BYD Philippines yet. Upon launch last year in China, the Song L sold for around $30,000 (P1.7 million), though other sources claim it was sold in the $26,000 (P1.5 million) to $28,000 (P1.6 million) range.

BYD Philippines currently has six cars in its fleet (seven when the Seal officially hits dealerships), and it looks like the next round of releases will be inbound. Maybe a certain great white pickup EV is next?
