At the 2014 SEMA show in Las Vegas, Ford announced that it was teaming up with NASCAR legend Richard Petty to create the "Petty’s Garage Mustang GT." Only a few months later and the car will reportedly go into limited production as two versions.
The Stage 1 Petty's Garage Mustang GT will have a unique front fascia, while the rear will be reworked to feature a center-exit exhaust and a race-inspired spoiler. Inside, custom-embroidered headrests, floor mats and Petty's signature on the dashboard will set the car apart from the standard Mustang GT. Technical tweaks done to the GT's 5.0-liter engine include a Ford Racing/Roush supercharger, a cold air intake, a MagnaFlow exhaust system, and custom engine calibration to boost the car’s output to 627hp. The Stage 1 Mustang GT will be limited to 100 units. It can be ordered in any color, "with all unique bodywork painted to match in-house at Petty’s Garage."
As for the Stage 2 version, the car will get all of the above-mentioned features of the Stage 1 car as well as the addition of a Wilwood big-brake upgrade and a complete Petty's Garage custom two-tone paint job. Only 43 units of the Stage 2 Mustang GT will be produced, although the very first one has already been ordered by AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson.
"This Mustang has just taken my breath away," said Johnson. "It really is one of the best cars I've ever driven. I didn't have an American car, but I do now!"
