A new Ford Ranger variant has appeared in the LTO’s homologation documents: a 4x4 named the ‘Wildtrak’ powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 mated to a ten-speed automatic. It’s most likely going to sit below the similarly spec’d ‘Wildtrak-X’ in the range, and might replace the old four-cylinder Wildtraks in the Philippines.

So, same powertrain and very similar monikers—but what’s different? Well, this ‘regular’ Wildtrak happens to have different listed dimensions. It’s still 5,370mm long with a 3,270mm wheelbase, but the Wildtrak is 31mm narrower and 30mm shorter than its X counterpart. It also has slightly less ground clearance at 235mm, which is 7mm less than the Wildtrak-X.

From this, we can speculate that when the new Ranger Wildtrak makes its way to the Philippine market, it might come in two variants. The Wildtrak could offer the turbodiesel V6 and 4x4 drivetrain, while the Wildtrak-X adds extra goodies on top: a revised higher-riding suspension, wider wheels with fender flares to match, and a roof rack from the factory comes to mind.

As a refresher, this V6 turbodiesel mill makes 247hp and 600Nm of torque. For context, the V6 Ranger Raptor boasts 392hp and 583Nm while the one with the 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel has 207hp and 500Nm. Both Wildtrak variants should still slot below the Raptor in the Ford Ranger stack.

Despite skipping this year’s motor shows, it’s certainly been a busy year for the Blue Oval. We’ve seen Ford Philippines bring out the RWD Mustang Mach-E as well as the Ford Territory Hybrid Platinum so far, and it seems to be intent on keeping up the momentum through the rest of the year.

What do you think of this possible multi-model approach to offering the Ranger Wildtrak in the Philippines? Let us know in the comments, and we’ll stay tuned for further developments.
