Is there enough room for another Japanese sports executive sedan? For years, that space has been filled by the Lexus IS, but Nissan wants in on the fun too.
For decades, the IS' prime compatriot competetitor has been the Nissan Skyline sedan, also known as the Infiniti Q50 in other parts of the world. Yes, the Skyline has been around for much longer, but the Lexus has been ahead in terms of sales. It's quite the feat for Toyota given that Nissan (and Infiniti) had a huge head start in that class.

Now, it seems that Nissan wants to take a bigger chunk out of Lexus IS sales. Under its Infiniti luxury division, the company has released a new concept sports executive sedan that might just be the preview of the next-gen Nissan Skyline sedan.
Dubbed the Infiniti Vision Qe, it's a pure electric fastback sedan that will make it to production soon. The Vision Qe came to life under the leadership of Alfonso Albaisa, senior vice president for global design Alfonso Albaisa, and Infiniti senior design director, Taisuke Nakamura. The company hasn't said when exactly it'll reach showrooms, but it's a bold direction for the automaker nonetheless.

Okay, perhaps not all design elements will make it into production, but we could see bits of it being applied to future Infiniti sedan models. With that in mind, it does hint that Nissan (specifically Infiniti) isn't giving up on the good ol' four-door sedan. At the moment, the luxury division only has one sedan in its lineup, the Q50/ Skyline sedan.
The design team seems to be proud of the fact that concept car had a pretty quick gestation period. Granted, an exact timeline wasn't mentioned, but the company notes that it went straight from digital proposals and straight into full scale models without going through building clay models. That's a bold and rather risky move, but if Infiniti pulled it off, it might just be the start of something new in the world of car design.
