GAC Philippines has officially launched the GAC E8 HEV in the local market along with the all-new GN6 and GN8 PHEV Executive. The seven-seater hybrid comes in two variants—the GX and the GL—and is set to be a contender in the premium MPV segment.
The E8 HEV isn’t a conventional seven-seater. It has captain seats in the second row with ventilation, massage functions, bed-like reclinability, and electric-powered legrests. Meanwhile, the third row features a 40:60 split, and folds down flat for added storage space. There’s also a cool feature called ‘Tea Break Mode,’ which we’ll get into in a bit. But first, prices.

The E8 HEV is a parallel-style hybrid and uses a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor. The engine produces 138hp and 180Nm of torque while the motor delivers 180hp and 300Nm. Fuel consumption is listed at around 17.9km/L. Range hasn’t been disclosed as of writing, but based on its fuel consumption and 60-liter gas tank, we can land on an estimation of about 1,074km, more or less.
At its price point, the E8 HEV’s main competition would be the BYD eMax 7, the Toyota Zenix, and possibly the Hyundai Staria Hybrid. How large is this MPV, you ask? Dimensions are listed at 4,920mm long, 1,928mm wide, and 1,760mm tall.
Some features on this MPV include a 14.6-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an 8.8-inch LCD instrument panel, seven USB ports, and PVC leather seats. And of course, as mentioned earlier, Tea Break Mode for the third row that basically flips your seats to face backwards to make a bench when hanging out by the tailgate.
