Following its teaser for a new SUV last month, Geely has confirmed it will be launching the Monjaro EM-i by the end of October this year. As suggested by the ‘EM-i’ suffix, the SUV will utilize the Chinese automaker’s plug-in hybrid technology.

The brand describes the new Monjaro as an “executive performance flagship” SUV competing in the D-segment. This confirms that it will compete for the same market as the BYD Tang DM-i and the MG RX9.

While Geely has yet to reveal any specifications, the brand confirmed that the Monjaro EM-i will be equipped with an electronic all-wheel drive system. It will also ride on Geely’s GEA Evo architecture, which boasts great space utilization and advanced safety technology.

However, the Department of Energy’s EV database did reveal that the Monjaro EM-i is propelled by two electric motors, with a 29.8kWh battery and a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine attached. While we wait for Geely’s official power figures, the suggested 410hp and 723Nm of torque sound very promising.

The Monjaro EM-i will serve as Geely’s latest effort in its campaign to reestablish itself in the Philippine market. Let us know what you think of this incoming PHEV SUV in the comments.
