The practicality of MPVs is cool, people, particularly when Mugen is involved.

Because this is the Japanese tuner’s take on the new Honda Freed, a chunky little six-seat hybrid MPV that can be spec’d with four-wheel drive and even comes in Crosstar trim with slightly raised suspension and some black plastic cladding. No, you don’t really need that SUV or crossover.

Mugen hasn’t released full details of its changes just yet, but these pictures clearly show some sportier styling with a new front splitter, side skirts, a diffuser, and a rear spoiler on the standard Freed. All highly important aero additions for a 1.5-litre engined MPV, of course.

It looks great, though, as does the Crosstar with its new aftermarket alloy wheels, Mugen branding, and camouflage graphics. Mugen says the two minivans were based on a concept of ‘sports for everyone,’ which is just really rather wholesome, isn’t it?

Orders will open in Japan later this year, with the full parts and prices lineup released shortly.
