The facelifted 2024 Hyundai Creta is finally out, and the redesign is as extensive as the teasers promised. This is a far cry from the perfunctory midlife refresh we usually see—there are significant changes inside and out as well as under the hood.

For the Indian market, Hyundai has introduced a new 1.5-liter turbopetrol engine mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. This new motor is a lot brawnier than the non-turbo 1.5-liter gasoline motor in our existing Creta, putting out 158hp and 253Nm of torque (versus 113hp and 144Nm, respectively), with claimed fuel efficiency of 18.4km/L.

The powertrain also features three driving modes (Eco, Normal, and Sport) and three traction-control modes (Snow, Sand, and Mud). No changes have been made to the two other engine options in the Indian market—the aforementioned non-turbo gasoline and a 1.5-liter turbodiesel good for 114hp and 250Nm.

As we wrote earlier this month, the Creta’s front end now resembles that of the Palisade as Hyundai’s current preference for boxy styling trickles down to the rest of the lineup. New quad-beam headlamps, sequential turn signals, and DRLs frame a bold rectangular grille, and the rugged-looking front bumper with a skid plate helps create a more imposing appearance for this subcompact crossover. The rear gets connected LED taillamps and a matching bumper treatment. Up top are integrated roof rails and a sharkfin antenna, while down below, the car rides on new 17-inch alloy rims.

The cockpit has been thoroughly redesigned, too, with an all-new dashboard layout that seamlessly integrates a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster with a 10.25-inch central multimedia touchscreen. Below that, the center console now has dual-zone automatic climate controls, a wireless charger, and USB-C connectivity. An eight-speaker Bose sound system is available likely for higher variants, and Hyundai Bluelink allows for over 70 features to be accessed or controlled via a connected smartphone and smartwatch.

For safety, the Creta is equipped with the Hyundai SmartSense level two advanced driver-assist systems. Among the included features are forward-collision warning and avoidance assist (with car, cycle, pedestrian, and junction turning detection), blind-spot collision warning and avoidance, lane-keeping and lane-following assist, leading-vehicle departure alert, warnings for lane departure, safe exit, and driver attention, and smart cruise control with stop-and-go function.

The second-gen Creta was introduced in the local market in June 2022. This facelifted version should find its way to our part of Asia later in the year. Could this be one of the new models that Hyundai will bring into the local market in 2024?
