Could the new Hyundai Grandeur be a worthy hybrid option in PH?

It’s just been given a facelift, and it looks gorgeous both inside and out

Hyundai Motor Philippines has built quite the impressive electrified lineup here in our market. It already has the EVs like the Ioniq 5, 6, and 9, and hybrids such as the Elantra, Kona, and Palisade. That said, with Filipino car buyers starting to bet big on electric, we think it wouldn’t hurt to add more to this growing portfolio.

We’re not betting on it arriving here, but one possible addition could be the new Hyundai Grandeur. The full-size sedan has just gotten a facelift in its home market of South Korea, and it’s gotten the Genesis treatment.

It’s still a Hyundai, but it’s almost like a Genesis with the way the exterior and interior have been reworked. On the outside, it screams luxury sedan. Not that the old model wasn’t classy, but this one just looks more premium, now with a much larger grille housing the eye-catching retro DRLs.

The rear sees subtle tweaks, still with a lightbar at the back sandwiched by the Hyundai and Grandeur badges. There aren’t a lot of photos yet, but there appears to be more contrasting trim on the rear bumper.

The Grandeur also sits on more dazzling wheels than before. The old wheels were similar to that of the current Palisade, while these new ones are more Ioniq-like.

On the inside, the Grandeur has been stitched with a plethora of beautiful leather. It appears to be a burgundy finish, sporting a little bit of red and brown. We’re not sure of the colorway, but we’re sure it looks like an absolutely gorgeous cabin, especially with the accents on the dash.

There appears to be a new massive infotainment system up front, which, as pointed out by other publications, could be powered by Hyundai’s new proprietary OS Pleos. That should unlock more features and enable a more personalized experience for the driver. The instrument cluster that the head unit is paired with also appears to be smaller than before, which we think is a wise move considering the size of the center display.

No powertrain options were specified yet, but we know from pre-facelift models that the there are plenty to choose from. What we want to see in our market, however, is the 1.6-liter turbocharged hybrid that gets a single motor and produces 227hp and 350Nm in total. Some might want the 3.5-liter V6 instead, but considering fuel prices these days, it wouldn’t be practical to bring that here.

Speaking of which, like we said earlier, the Hyundai Grandeur probably won’t make it to the Philippines, especially since sedans are a dying breed here. Still, one can dream. If priced right, this could rival the upcoming Lexus ES, or heck, even the Toyota Camry. Who knows?
