Astara got really busy at this year’s Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), showcasing its complete portfolio, including the lineups of its newest brands in JMC and JAC. You could argue, though, that the latter had one particular model that was catching more attention than most: the Ytterby.

It’s as quirky as its name sounds. This is JAC’s small electric vehicle that’s just been previewed in the local market. So before any of you get overly excited about this one, note that it isn’t for sale in the Philippines just yet. Emphasis on yet.

The Ytterby looks absolutely cute, and it’s got a very clean design to it. The front clip is adorned by headlamps that dare I say remind me a lot of the Porsche 911. Yes, I said it. Please don’t come at me with pitchforks, Porsche fans. The rear looks as simple as the front, but the taillights do have a very intricate design, and it looks pretty good.

On the inside, there’s decent space, with a fully flat floor allowing for good legroom underneath. While the shiny plastics on the dash do look a bit too much, the massive 12.3-inch head unit, I think, is a good fit. There are also mini desks on the center console that are enough for small everyday items.

In terms of dimensions, this stands 4,025mm long, 1,770mm wide, and 1,560mm long, so it’s just about the size of a subcompact hatchback. It weighs 1,365kg wet. It’s powered by a 41kWh battery that together with the electric motor enables an estimated range of 400-500km. Charging time from 0 to 100% takes seven and a half hours with an AC charger and from 30 to 80% in just half an hour with a DC charger. Peak output for this one is 94hp and 135Nm of torque.

Impressive numbers, eh? Unfortunately, no numbers for the local prices are available just yet. But we expect this to arrive in the market sometime this year, so that SRP might be revealed sooner rather than later. What do you think of this new EV, folks?
