MG Philippines has consistently been bolstering its lineup with one solid new offering after the other. This year alone, we’ve seen multiple new models launched across two different motor shows.
It appears we’re far from seeing the last of MG’s new introductions this year, though, as the brand is already nearing its next launch: the MG S5 EV. The carmaker has confirmed this will be unveiled next month, and it even surprised us with a very quick preview of this upcoming model.
The MG S5 is a proper crossover, built on the same platform as the old MG 4, meaning it’s rear-wheel-driven. The rear-mounted electric motor produces a healthy 168hp and 250Nm of torque. The S5 EV packs a 49kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and promises a maximum range of 415km.

The S5 gets a minimalist interior that’s very similar to the MG 4 Urban’s, with a pair of displays on the dash and a cabin that’s mostly adorned in dark plastics and a few soft-touch materials here and there. There are a few knobs and buttons on the center console to control the A/C and the entertainment system, which is almost uncharacteristic for an MG car.
That’s as far as the physical controls go, though, as the head unit houses the majority of the controls, including those for the MG Pilot suite of ADAS.
As for the design, it’s very much MG-like, with styling cues as the 3 and 4 Urban. It doesn’t have that wide, gaping grille up front, but those headlights and the bumper silhouette feel very familiar.
The MG S5 EV will be launched in August. We don’t have the exact launch date yet, but that’s just a few days away, so we’re expecting an invite sooner rather than later. Keep your eyes peeled for this one, folks. If priced right—which we’re guessing it will be—it should make for an interesting competitor to the likes of the BYD Atto 3.
