Man, it seems like just yesterday when we were all drooling over the possibility of having the Honda Civic Type R in our market. Now? We’re already talking about the upcoming refresh.
Yes, the updated version of the Japanese car manufacturer’s immensely popular hot hatch has been revealed at the 2020 Tokyo Auto Salon. The 2020 update sees the vehicle equipped with a handful of worthwhile improvements, both in terms of performance and interior feel.
First up, Honda has opted to give the Civic Type R new brake pads for better stopping power, and updated dampers for improved ride comfort. Rear bushings are now stiffer for more grip, and Honda says the front suspension has been modified for improved driving feel.
Outside, the 2020 model gets a larger front-grille opening and the attractive new ‘Boost Blue’ color option that you see in these images. The cabin, meanwhile, flaunts a new alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, while Honda Sensing driver-assist tech now comes as standard with the vehicle.
Powering the new Honda Civic Type R is the same 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine capable of 306hp at 6,500rpm and 400Nm of torque at 2,500-4,500rpm, so no changes there. Also, this hot hatch still comes available only with a six-speed manual transmission.
Honda says the refreshed Civic Type R will launch in the US market in winter 2020. Do you want Honda Cars Philippines to make this update available locally, too? Let us know in the comments.
