The next-generation Mitsubishi Pajero is set to be launched later in the year. As anticipation builds, we’ve been treated to some teasers to show what the 2027 model will have in store. Recently, Mitsubishi even seems open to the possibility of a Ralliart version for the revived SUV.

“It would be lovely to have a Pajero Ralliart,” said Mitsubishi Motors Australia GM for product strategy, Bruce Hampel, in an interview with CarSales.com.au. “Given the linkage to Dakar and the history we have, I think most customers associate Pajero with Dakar. I guess I’m getting older; the affiliation is becoming less and less nowadays.”

“But I think that association of Mitsubishi with rally is really the key thing that was very strong back in the ’80s, ’90s, with the Pajeros in Dakar, with the Lancers, the Evolutions in World Rally,” he adds. “And the passion that brings to brands is something we’re trying to reinvigorate here.”

The model is indeed heavily associated with rally—especially Dakar.  The Pajero competed a total of 26 times in the annual off-road endurance event, achieving 12 wins with seven consecutive victories. That puts the nameplate as the most successful vehicle in the Dakar Rally’s history.

It’s fitting if the next-generation Pajero were to receive a Ralliart version to emphasize the nameplate’s significance in the world of motorsport. It would also help Mitsubishi regain that footing as the Lancer Evolution is no longer in the picture (well...at least not for now). This isn’t an official confirmation that Mitsubishi will be making a 2027 Pajero Ralliart, but we’ve definitely got our fingers crossed.
