A new Nissan Pathfinder has just been released in China, but this is not the outdoor-focused SUV you may be familiar with. Instead, this new model arrives as a more realized version of the Dongfeng Nissan concept revealed in 2023.
Off the bat, it looks like an evolved Leaf rather than a next-generation Terrano or Terra, while inside, it attempts to squeeze a Patrol-like cabin into a relatively smaller footprint. And because this model is built in China (and for China), it will not be replacing the US-made Pathfinder.
At the same time, the two Pathfinders couldn’t look more different. The Chinese version features more executive styling and an optional two-tone finish to look even more elegant. It isn’t advertised to be caked in mud and driven off-road—instead, this is a car for weekend country club excursions.

With that, a sensible 2.0-liter turbocharged engine is on deck, with 248hp and 376Nm of torque at the ready. And while it misses a 4x4 drivetrain, there are still plenty of off-road driving modes to choose from. These include Sand and Mud, as well as Sport and Eco for urban drives. All-wheel and front-wheel drive options are also available.
Speaking of urban driving, the city is where this new Pathfinder is really expected to shine. Yes, that might be out of character for the nameplate, but it does look well-equipped for the job. A relatively comprehensive suite of Nissan ProPilot driving assists has been baked into the system, along with an improved in-car operating software with voice-controlled functions. That all fits into a six-or seven-seater cabin, dressed in high-quality materials.
This facelifted Pathfinder comes at an odd time for Nissan, as the brand’s operations in China have mostly been focused on its EVs. ICE vehicles are generally decreasing in the Chinese market, which makes us think that this production model could find its way to other markets. Mind you, Nissan China has already begun exporting the Frontier Pro, and we’ve already seen it at the 2026 Philippine International Motor Show.
