When the Nissan Sakura first launched in 2022, it became an instant hit, quickly becoming Japan’s best-selling EV with over 35,000 units sold in 2023. This year, the Sakura gets a timely facelift as Japan’s EV landscape gets more competitive.

The updated Sakura features a new front bumper, new wheels, and new color options. The G and X variants come with copper accents on the front fascia regardless of body color, as well as newly designed 14- or 15-inch wheels finished in black and silver. The S variant retains the pre-facelift front fascia but receives updated black geometric hubcaps.

The Sakura also comes with a new two-tone colorway: Minamono Sakura and Sterling Silver. In total, there are 10 colorways to choose from, five of which are two-tone. Additionally, you can also opt for the Sakura Styling Package, which adds cherry blossom accents to both the exterior and interior.

Speaking of the interior, the drive mode selector button previously located beside the steering wheel towards the driver’s door has been moved to the center of the dashboard. Nissan has also managed to include a passenger-side cupholder in front of the A/C vent. Meanwhile, the USB-C ports have been moved a couple of inches lower.

Aside from those things, there seem to be no new features to note. The cockpit retains the 7-inch instrument cluster and 9-inch infotainment screen on the dashboard. Trying to look for other changes in the interior quickly becomes a long game of ‘spot the difference.’

Performance and tech-wise, the Sakura retains Nissan’s host of safety features, including 360º Safety Assist and ProPilot. It still also has the same single electric motor delivering 63hp and 195Nm of torque with 180km of range.

The updated 2026 Nissan Sakura focuses on a visual refresh with small ergonomic improvements to the cabin, with prices ranging from ¥2,448,600 (P923,800) to ¥2,998,600 (P1,131,196). But will it be enough to fend off new competition from the Honda N-One e: and BYD Racco? Only time will tell.
